| Before the start of the Mahabharata war, at the advice of Lord Krishna, Yudhishthira and his brothers, went up to Bhishma, touched his feet, and said, “Grandfather, ever since we lost our father, you looked after us and brought us up; unfortunately, today we have to fight with you. Please give us permission for this battle.” Bhishma was very much moved that even under those terrifying conditions of battle, Yudhishthira was doing his duty and came all the way to seek his permission. Bhishma embraced him and said, “Even in the battlefield, you are observing dharma and it gives me great pleasure. You will be victorious in this battle because you are acting according to dharma. Those who protect righteousness (dharma) will in turn be protected by dharma.” Such is the highest order of regulatory conduct taught by Lord Krishna; ponder over this and wonder if we, as human beings, are observing appropriate rules and code of conduct. - Summer Roses on Blue Mountains, 1976, Ch 6. | |
