| Sensuous pleasures are momentary and leave a trail of pain behind. Yet most people, from the learned to the illiterate, seek only such fleeting and unreal pleasures (preyas). Hence, instead of seeking preyas, develop a desire for spiritual well-being (Shreyas). Surely there is a need for some concern about physical comforts. ‘Even the body is essential for the realisation of Dharma,’ says the scripture. The demands of the body have to be satisfied. Society has to be served. Family responsibilities have to be discharged. The body is the basis for all these. But this should not be the ultimate goal of life. Together with this, there should be the yearning for a higher Shreyas. All actions aimed at Spiritual bliss are related to Shreyas and it is when you yearn for Shreyas, that even preyas leads you to fulfilment. - Divine Discourse, 5 Mar, 1995. | |
When your heart is filled with good thoughts and feelings, all that comes out of the senses - your speech, your vision, your action - will all be pure. - Baba |
