| The root-cause of all troubles is the uncontrolled and ill-directed mind. Like the river Godavari in floods, the mind rolls along, causing slips and slides and devastating vast areas on both banks. Discrimination and non-attachment are the two banks that tame the mad energy of the flood (your mind) and lead the raging waters into the sea (Divinity), which is really the destination they seek. None of you should make any attempt to run away from the duties of your station and status. Instead, remember to do those duties as worship, as offerings of your intelligence, skill, qualities, and thoughts and feelings to the feet of the Lord in a spirit of thankfulness for the chance given, without any trace of egoism or a sense of attachment to the fruits of the actions. Obligatory actions must be carried out, wherever you are, with care and sincerity. When you do so, they bestow upon you with the much-needed discrimination and non-attachment. – Divine Discourse, Apr 23, 1961. | |
The one who discriminates well before engaging in any activity will naturally be righteous in conduct and behaviour. - Baba |
