Sai Inspires - 1st November 2007 from Prashanti Nilayam

Dear Reader,
Loving Sairam and greetings on the first day of Baba's Birthday month.

What is the difference between an ordinary man and an Avatar? Swami tells us today.

The November Issue of
Heart2Heart is Up!

Sai Inspires - 1st November 2007

.

Give away 'Love' to all; give up the ego; display heroism in service; with compassion to fellowmen, feel your intimate kinship with them. Visualize the Aathma (spirit) that illumines all; derive unending Bliss therefrom. All who come Embodied are Avatars, that is to say, advents of the Divine, manifestations of God. What, then, is the special feature of Rama, Krishna, Buddha, and Christ? Why do you celebrate their birthdays with such reverential enthusiasm? The specialty is this: they are aware; you are unaware of the Aathma which is the Truth. Awareness confers Grace, Glory, Majesty, Might, and Splendour. Awareness confers liberation from bounds, from time, space and causation; from sleep, dream and wakefulness. For you, sleep is fiction; dream is fantasy and wakefulness a many-directional storm. Avatars are ever alert, aware, and alight.

- Divine Discourse, October 10, 1983.

Life bereft of faith and love is meaningless and useless. - Baba

Sai Inspires - 31st October 2007 from Prashanti Nilayam

Dear Reader,
Loving Sairam from the Heart2Heart Team.

There is a debt that everybody has to discharge? What is it and how can it be done? Swami tells us today.

Did you read the story
"My Visit to Heaven"?

Sai Inspires - 31st October 2007

.sai

We owe a debt of gratitude to the Divine which has not only endowed us with this precious human body but which also sustains it. We shall be able to enjoy these gifts of the Divine only if we discharge this debt to the Divine. How is this to be done? It is by rendering service to other bodies saturated with the same Divine, by doing righteous deeds and consecrating all actions in the service of society. The debt to the Divine has to be discharged in full in this life itself or during many future lives. The earlier we repay this debt, the sooner we shall realize Divinity.

- Divine Discourse, October 10, 1983.

First and foremost, you should show gratitude to your parents, love them and respect them. - Baba

Sai Inspires - 30th October 2007 from Prashanti Nilayam

Dear Reader,
Loving Sairam from the Heart2Heart Team.

Saicast (Video Stream) is updated with
Guru Purnima, 2007.

What is the most important harmony that we should strive to attain and maintain? Swami tells us today.

Sai Inspires - 30th October 2007

The most important element in man's existence is sankalpa (firm thought). As are the thoughts, so is the speech. As is the speech so are the actions. The harmony of these three will lead to the experience of Divinity. Words come out of the heart. They should be filled with compassion. The heart is the abode of compassion. It is the source of love. Hence whatever emanates from the heart should be filled with love. That love should express itself in speech. The flow of love in speech should find concrete expression in action.

- Divine Discourse, December 9, 1985.

It is only when the body, the mind and the spirit are in harmony that peace will prevail. - Baba

Sai Inspires - 29th October 2007 from Prashanti Nilayam

Dear Reader,
Loving Sairam from the Heart2Heart Team.

What can confer us permanent peace? Swami tells us today.

Did you read the story
"The Mahatma and the
Old Woman"?

Sai Inspires - 29th October 2007

The world has to be brought back to the rails. Only love and peace can achieve this. Fill your thoughts, speech and actions with love, truth and peace and engage yourselves in service actions. We aspire for peace and comfort all the time, but where can we find it? Is it to be found in the material world around us? Experience shows that the peace or happiness got from external objects is not enduing. It is like a mirage, which cannot quench the thirst of the deluded animal that runs towards it. The real source of peace is within every individual and it is this inner peace that can confer real joy.

- Divine Discourse, December 9, 1985.

Man’s primary duty is to uphold the human values of truth, righteousness, peace and love. - Baba

"ANYONE LISTENING?"

Whom does the lord consider worthy of receiving His Grace? Bhagavan tells us today.

"Quiz on Heart2Heart"?

Sai Inspires - 28th October 2007

The lord searches for goodness only, not for faults and sins. Those are based on the standard of the Gunas (qualities) of each. He will not examine the wealth, the family, the Gothra (lineage), the status, or the sex. He sees only the Righteousness, the Sadbhava. Those endowed with such Sadbhava, He considers as deserving His Grace, whoever they are, whatever they are. Therefore, develop Sadbhava, goodness and righteousness. Live and act in joy and love. These two are sufficient; salvation can be attained without fail.

- Prema Vahini.

God’s grace too is like that. It flows down to those who are bent with humility. - Baba
ANYONE LISTENING?

Sai Ram and greetings from Prashanti Nilayam. October has come and is about to go. The beginning of the month saw an unexpected and global flutter about Swami giving a Cosmic Darshan. We do not have to recall all that since much has been said already. [Currently, there seems to be a second innings to that incident with Swami in the Moon!] Anyway, that event passed and soon it was the Navarathri season, which opened as usual with a quiet non-stop Puja in the Mandir for Devi the Universal Mother. Simultaneously, Grama Seva, now in its eighth year running, commenced, covering about 150 villages and neighbouring hamlets , involving distribution to thousands of households. In all, about half a million food packets were distributed, as also tens of thousands of sarees and dhotis.

Soon after the Navarathri (Dasara) season commenced, so did the annual Yajna performed for Universal Peace, with the daily proceedings this time being duly adapted to suit Swami’s somewhat flexible routine. At last, everyone has come to realise that Swami’s body cannot be taxed with punishing schedules as earlier, and that we must learn to discipline ourselves as also be thankful for what we are blessed with. The evenings saw the usual quota of speech making. Apart from the regular speakers, we had one or two new voices too which gave fresh viewpoints.

In the midst of all the traditional pre-occupations, 20th October came and went by WITH HARDLY ANY NOTICE BY ANYONE WHATSOEVER! One wonders how many even remember what 20th October is all about. And, as if to drive home the point, Swami’s Discourse on 21st October, the concluding day of the festival, began with a pointed reference to the Shirdi Avatar. Swami reminded the audience that it was on the Vijaya Dasami day that God brought the curtain down on His earlier incarnation as the Avatar of Shirdi, with the promise to come back again soon.

It is amazing how quickly we tend to get defocused these days, with the mobile phone ever ready to distract our attention. In the Gita the Lord says that Avatars come to teach man a lesson, in fact the same lesson imparted earlier. God comes again to do a revision course when the earlier teachings have been forgotten, making it necessary to revisit ancient wisdom once more.

All that was in the good old days, as they say. But in this Kali Age, we have become “very efficient”! We are learning to forget God and His Message even while the Avatar is here. Actually, we need not even bother to make any serious effort to forget. One short command suffices: CONTROL-ALT- DELETE - Long live Windows!

In His Discourse on 21st October, Swami said, “All of you are the Embodiments of Sai!” There was the usual applause of course. But one wonders whether anyone anywhere paid attention to the import of that statement. What does the statement that all are Sai really mean? Naturally, different people would tend to interpret that differently but we here in H2H venture to submit our view.

We believe it means that all of us must act in a manner that would be in as much conformity as possible with what Swami says and stands for. Is that happening? That question was actually asked by Prof Anantaraman, a member of the visiting faculty, in Swami’s University. Speaking in one of the evening sessions a few days before Vijaya Dasami, Prof Anantaraman, in a voice dripping with pain, asked why there is so much selfishness and jealousy in our hearts, why there is so much in-fighting even within the Organisation when we all should be highly pro-active in setting great examples of Sai Love to the world. He ended his thought-provoking talk with the words, “The time has come when we have to seriously ask ourselves if we really deserve Swami?”

Tough talk, but a pertinent and meaningful question nevertheless – so we believe. What do you say? Do please let us know.

Jai Sai Ram.

What should be the basis of our life? Swami tells us today.

Sai Inspires - 27th October 2007

To realise the Divine, love is the easiest path. Just as you can see the moon only with the light of the moon, God, who is embodiment of love, can be reached only through love. Regard love as your life breath. Love was the first quality to emerge in the creative process. All other qualities came after it. Therefore, fill your heart with love and base your life on it.

Sai Inspires - 26th October 2007 from Prashanti Nilayam

Loving Sairam from the Heart2Heart Team.

What is the vitamin that is needed everyday to keep us healthy in every way? Swami tells us today.

"O Beloved Mother Sai!"

Sai Inspires - 26th October 2007

Bhakthi (devotion) is not like lime pickle, to be used only when you have fever; it is man's daily substance, the vitamin he must have for physical and mental health. The contemplation of God is like the main rice dish; the rest are side dishes, appetizers, fillers. Take the tablet of Naamasmarana (constant thought of the Lord), and all the experience of your daily life, the good and the bad, will be digested nicely. You don't eat paddy, do you? You have the sense to remove the husk and then boil the rice before you eat it. So also, why do you take in nature as it is? Remove the allurement it has to the senses, make it just an expression of the Divine Will and then assimilate it.

Sai Inspires - 25th October 2007

One who is lacking in love for fellow beings will not secure God's love. Without love for God, one will not have fear of sin. In the absence of both of these, a man will have no sangha neethi (social morality). Neethi means right conduct. It implies right behaviour in harmony with the conditions of the particular time, place and society. You have to subordinate yourself to the mores of the community. You should not violate the norms of society. Hence the Veda (ancient Indian scriptures) enjoined observance of social disciplines.

- Divine Discourse, October 5, 1989.

Sai Inspires - 24th October 2007

Through very small effort great things can be accomplished. A huge serpent can be destroyed by a large number of small ants. Do not consider yourself small. Seek to acquire the strength and determination to carry out your duties. In the world, difficulties crop up from time to time. Jealousy towards one's betters is quite common. Crows have animus against the cuckoo. Cranes jeer at swans. But neither the cuckoo nor the swan is worried. The world has many such envious beings. Do not allow yourself to be overwhelmed by such experiences. You have to confront them boldly and stand up for truth.

- Divine Discourse, June 18, 1989.

One filled with Divine Love will be fearless, will seek nothing from others,
and will be spontaneous and selfless in expressing his or her Love.- Baba

Sai Inspires - 22nd October 2007

Nowadays, people laugh at the idea of Naamasmarana and Naamasankeerthana (remembering and singing God's holy Names). They ask, what is in a Name? It is just an assortment of sounds. My words too are assortments of sound, but, when they enter your hearts, you feel content, you feel encouraged, is it not? Words have tremendous power; they can arouse emotions and they can calm them. They direct, they infuriate, they reveal, they confuse; they are potent forces that bring up great reserves of strength and wisdom. Therefore have faith in the Name and repeat it whenever you get the chance.

Sai Inspires - 21st October 2007 from Prashanti Nilayam

Dear Reader,
Loving Sairam from the Heart2Heart Team.

What should our attitude be when we worship the Lord? Swami explains to us today.

Did you try the
"Quiz on Shirdi Sai"?

Sai Inspires - 21st October 2007

People are of three types. First, Bhakthi rasa-aathmakam (emotional type). The second, Kriyaaathmakam (active type). The third, the rational type. The emotional type of persons are engagedin activities like worship of idols, bhajans, etc. They offer worship to an idol or picture in the faith that God in a certain form has shown to mankind the means to liberation. However, you may worship a picture as God, but not God as a picture. You may see God in a picture, but the picture is not God. No object exists with a form without the immanence of the Divine in it. Hence every object has to be elevated to the level of the Divine. Treat every object as a manifestation of the Divine. But do not reduce the Divine to the level of material objects.

- Divine Discourse, December 18, 1994.

Prayer must come from the depths of feeling; the Lord looks
for bhava (sincerity of feeling), not bahya (outward pomp). - Baba
